Sport Psychology Consulting

WHAT IS SPORT PSYCHOLOGY?

Sport psychology is the study and practice of the mind’s impact on sport and exercise performance. It studies how physical activity and sports can impact health and well-being as well as teach mental skills and techniques to help improve performance. These practices that are often taught not only help with athletic performance but can also become valuable skills in everyday life such as with school and work. Working with a sport psychology consultant is often thought to be only for professional or elite athletes, but anyone of any skill level can benefit from the resources provided by consultants!

Some of the issues sport psychology consultants can help with include:

• improving motivation

• attention / arousal control

• confidence

• team dynamics

HALEY BERRY

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Haley Berry graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. While loving all that the field of athletic training has to offer, she wanted to expand her knowledge in areas that allow for the best possible care of the athletes. That lead her to get her Master of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. During her time at UNT, Berry worked as an athletic trainer with the Mean Green football team as well as the swim and dive team. Outside of her time working with collegiate teams, Berry provides care for athletes of all levels – from middle and high school athletes to professional and elite athletes. In addition to her broad athletic training experience, Berry works with local club sports teams as their sport psychology consultant.

Berry’s approach while working with athletes has always been from a humanistic perspective. She values improving the overall well-being of athletes and finds that getting to the root of their issue is always the most effective way of getting them to perform at their best.

Berry currently holds athletic training credentials (ATC) as well as licensure (LAT) in the state of Texas. In addition to these accomplishments, Berry is certified in multiple manual therapies including dry needling.
